What Type Of Guy Only Produces Only Daughters?
I sometimes hear from people who are trying to conceive a daughter.
Some of them feel like it takes a certain "type" of man to make this happen.
Or, they will believe that a man must possess certain physical attributes to be more likely to have a girl.
Some think that the life time diet or fitness habits of the man might affect his future child's gender.
Some believe that it is personality that matters as more gentle men are going to be better father's to daughters.
To that end, I might hear a comment like: "I am dating a man with whom I am serious.
I am thinking about marrying this man one day.
And when I settle down and have a family, I am intent on having a baby girl.
So, I'm starting to look at this man and wonder if he can produce a girl.
And I have heard all sorts of wives' tales about men who produce girl babies.
I have heard that they are effeminate and compassionate.
I have heard that men with blue eyes who are older are more likely to have daughters.
I've also heard that men with healthy diets are less likely to conceive a girl.
Is any of this true? My boyfriend is an athlete who doesn't meet all of these attributes.
And he is younger than I am, not older.
" I have heard some of these wives' tales also.
But, I don't generally believe any of them.
Here is why.
When you think scientifically about how boy and girl babies are produced, then none of this makes any sense.
Whether you get a son or a daughter depends solely on whether it is an X sperm chromosome or a Y one that fertilizes the egg.
Y produces boys.
And X produces girls.
Men can and do produce half X's and half Y's, giving them a 50 / 50 chance of conceiving either sex.
And, they can not control the make up of their sperm.
Nothing that a man does - his diet, his lifestyle, his personality - changes the make up of his sperm.
Now, there are things about the woman or the mother that can influence this process.
A woman who is acidic can discourage the boy producing sperm.
A woman who is alkaline can welcome it.
(And this can have an effect on gender.
) But none of this is true where the man is concerned.
When I was researching this topic, I found a study which indicated that good looking parents are slightly more likely to produce girl babies.
And by "slightly," I mean less than two percent more likely.
I don't find this to be statistically significant.
But, the thinking behind this is that good looking parents will conceive more girls because it is more beneficial for a girl child to be good looking than a boy child in terms of that same child's future.
I don't even buy this and, even if I did, I'm not sure how a man's being handsome would have any effect on his X and Y sperm production, which studies have shown to be produced in equal ratios, even in men who have conceived several of one gender only.
There are also studies that indicate that older couples are more likely to have girls.
But again, I have the same reservations.
The statistics just aren't that overwhelming.
Plenty of younger couples have daughters and plenty of older couples have boys.
And I know stunning couples who only have sons.
Think about it.
We all know couples who are extremely good looking and they have children of both genders.
I know that some may disagree and want to believe that certain men are more likely to produce certain genders, but in my opinion, this is mostly unsubstantiated.
