How Do I Create A Website? The Essential Steps To Creating Your First Website

103 26
"How Do I create a website?" is most likely the first question you may ask yourself when approaching the internet with an entrepreneurial spirit.
If you plan on conducting business via the world-wide web, learning the basics of setting up a website and marketing it are vital to any success.
In order to get started on the web, there are really only 3 things you will need.
I will go over each of them in detail and also give you an idea of potential costs.
1.
Domain Name: ($10-$12 /yr) - average If you are not familiar with the term "Domain Name," it is simply the web address of your website.
For example, let's say you started a painting business and you named it "Mike's Painting.
" Your first choice for a domain name would be "http://www.
mikespainting.
com" if that was available.
Or let's say you want your domain name to be XYZ.
Once you register it, the domain name will be: "http://www.
xyz.
com.
" There are quite a few choices when looking for a domain name.
The most popular places to obtain domain names are: Godaddy.
com and Namecheap.
com There are many more, but most people are pretty familiar with these two companies, especially "Go Daddy.
" These companies are called "registrars," but there are other registrars that I did not mention.
If you are curious to see what else is out there, just go to Google and type in "domain name registrars.
" 2.
Hosting Account: ($4-$8/mo) - average In all simplicity a hosting account is what connects your home computer to the world-wide web.
A hosting company has a "super computer" that can store over a thousand times more information that your home computer could and they are commonly referred to as "servers.
" You then must connect your personal domain name (which is your personal web address) to the hosting account.
Some examples of hosting companies would be: Godaddy.
com and Hostgator.
com 3.
HTML Editor: ($0-$399/ one time) This is where the magic happens! An HTML editor is simply a software application for creating a web page.
Once you learn the basics of using it, you are on your way to creating your first virtual masterpiece.
A great HTML editor for beginners that you can download for free is called "Kompozer.
" Just go to Google and type in "Kompozer Free Download.
" After downloading this software to your computer, you will most likely want to go through their tutorial to educate yourself on the basic functions of how to use it.
You will then be able to publish what you create from your HTML Editor to your hosting account and have your own address on the world-wide web! All three of these resources will most likely have tutorials walking you through each step.
