How to Remove Vinyl Planks
- 1). Slide a putty knife underneath the narrow edge of a plank. Use the knife to create leverage to lift the plank. If you meet resistance, blow hot air underneath the lip of the plank (via a hair dryer or heat gun) to soften the adhesive. Then try pulling up again. To make this process a little easier, cut the planks crosswise into smaller sections with your utility knife. Continue lifting (softening) and pulling until all of the planks are lifted from the floor.
- 2). Sweep the floor free of any loose debris.
- 3). Apply an adhesive remover to the adhesive stuck to the floor. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to the letter when applying the adhesive remover. There is a wide variety of adhesive removers on the market. Look for one specifically listed for use on vinyl tile glue.
- 4). Lift the adhesive remover from the floor with a squeegee, putty knife and/or rag once all of the adhesive is softened.
- 5). Mop the floor with water or the adhesive solvent recommended by the manufacturer. If the solvent is anything other than water, follow with a fresh water mop.
- 6). Towel dry the floor.
