How to Make a Crossbow Prod
- 1). Cut a section out of an old saw blade -- using an angle grinder -- measuring 18 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide. Clamping the saw blade between two pieces of wood will help to keep a straight edge while using the angle grinder. Repeat this step with four more saw blades until you have five sections of cut saw blades.
- 2). Place a section of cut saw blade into a vise, rough edge facing up. File down the cut edges until smooth using a fine metal file. Repeat for the four remaining blades.
- 3). Measure 1 1/2 inches from each end and make a horizontal mark. Draw two 1/2 inch semicircle grooves directly across from each other on both sides of the blade using your mark as the center guide line. Repeat for the other end of the blade. The grooves will be used for the prod end cap bolts. Repeat for the remaining four blades.
- 4). Cut a piece of 1/4-inch aluminum bar stock to 2 1/4 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide using an angle grinder. Use a cut saw blade as a template and draw two holes for the bolts to fit in between the semicircle grooves you made earlier. Drill the bolt holes out using a 5/16-inch bit. File the end down above the bolt holes to 1/2 inch wide. File two 1/16-inch grooves on both sides of the end piece. This will be used to attach the string.
- 5). Stack the five blades on top of each other. Fit the end caps onto both ends of the cut saw blades. Bolt the caps on place using 5/16-inch diameter bolts, fitting nuts and washers.
- 6). Wrap the ends with electrical tape over the bolts and continuing 4 inches down from the bolts. Your prod is now complete.
