How to Restore an iPod to Factory Condition
- 1). Open the iTunes program. Connect the iPod to your computer with the USB cable. Wait for your iPod to show up in the iTunes sidebar.
- 2). Click on your iPod in the sidebar to pull it up in the main iTunes screen. Click on the button labeled "Restore."
- 3). Select the restore option. There are four options presented in the iTunes window: restore with original software, restore with original software even if new software is available, restore with the newest software and restore and update. Select "Restore with Original Software" if you want the iPod to revert to its original condition. Select one of the other options if you want to update the original software.
If you are a Mac user, you'll be required to enter your password before moving on to the next step. - 4). Wait for the system restore to complete. On some newer iPod models, a two-part system restore is required. Once the progress bar is filled, you'll be instructed to disconnect your iPod from the computer, or leave it connected for the second part of the restore process. If your iPod requires a two-part restore, continue with the process; do not disconnect your iPod from the computer until the program instructs you to.
