How To Upgrade Vista Premium to Business
- 1). Download Windows Advisor from Microsoft's Windows website. Make sure your computer is capable of running Windows Vista Business. Don't assume that because you are running Home Premium, your machine will run Business. For Business to run smoothly, you should have at least 3 GB of RAM, though 4 GB is recommended.
- 2). If Advisor says you cannot run Business, skip to Section 2 for instructions. Once Advisor indicates you are ready to install Vista Business, insert the installation disc into your DVD-ROM drive.
- 3). Click Install Vista Business when the main menu appears. The program will begin installing the necessary files. Don't worry: The computer will install only files Windows Business needs to run and will not overwrite or delete any data files you've saved.
- 4). After Vista Business is finished installing, follow the prompt to reboot your computer. Once Windows reloads, you will need to perform updates.
- 5). If the computer doesn't automatically go into update mode, open the Control Panel applet and select Windows Updates. Let Windows find, download and install the appropriate updates for your computer.
- 6). Verify that all your hardware works with Vista Business. Test video outputs and USB ports as well as the headphone and microphone jacks. If they worked correctly with Vista Home Premium, they should work fine with Business. But test them to be sure.
- 1). Research what the upgrades to your computer will cost. Sometimes it may not be cost-effective to perform the upgrades--buying a new computer might be cheaper. Upgrades that are inexpensive: graphics cards, RAM and hard drives. Motherboard and processor upgrades are expensive.
- 2). Make minimal upgrades if necessary.
- 3). Follow the instructions beginning in Section 1.
