When it comes to high cholesterol levels, the goal is not to totally remove cholesterol as this too can be bad for your health, the goal is in fact to reduce the amount of bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase the amount of good cholesterol (HDL) in your blood.
The reason we need cholesterol is because it helps to build and maintain cell membranes as well as balancing hormones and creating vitamin D.
When you have too much of the bad cholesterol, then this can put you at a high risk of having a heart attack or a stroke, and whilst there are prescription drugs (statins) that can help to lower LDL levels, they unfortunately have quite a lot of side effects which can effect your breathing and muscles as well as increasing the chances of heart failure.
Also once you are on statins then you are on them for life, which has actually made them the most profitable drug ever.
How To Lower Cholesterol - Naturally When it comes to lowering cholesterol we want one of two things to happen to the LDL; we either want it taken back to the liver for reprocessing or we want it excreted from the body.
Fortunately there are natural alternatives to statins that can actually do these without the nasty side effects that drugs can have.
Firstly there is Policosanol which has been clinically proven to be as effective as statins.
Policosanol is extracted from sugar, rice bran and beeswax and it contains an alcohol in it that inhibits cholesterol synthesis.
As well as that there is also Lecithin and Rice Bran oil, both of which turn the cholesterol into bile salts which are then excreted from the body.
In addition to that there is also green tea which when fermented contains theaflavins which are powerful anti oxidants that not only reduce LDL but also increase the amount of HDL in your body too.
Finally there are phytosterols which are also known to be highly effective in reducing cholesterol levels.
The reason they are so effective is because they are very similar in structure to cholesterol and when they both compete for space into the gastrointestinal tract then the phytosterols are absorbed first.
All of these ways how to lower cholesterol are available in various forms, however there is one slight challenge with them.
On their own they are just not highly effective, they will work to a certain degree but not in a way that is going to have a huge impact on your health.
But, if you use them in conjunction with each other then you have a highly powerful way how to lower cholesterol naturally.
