Camping the Great Northwest - What Fantastic Facilities Await You?
It will be tough to find better government operated parks that those in the northwest.
We have camped all over North America but here are four reasons why we found northwest parks superior to others.
Many times you pull into a campground, visit the office, pay the camping fee, mostly overpriced, find the site and be terribly disappointed.
Either the site is too small or too close to the next site or there is a playground next door or the roadways are not RV friendly or the washrooms are a mess and too few for the size of the campground.
No doubt you may have had the same experience.
Not all are like that but many of the private ones unfortunately can be.
The government operated parks in the USA and Canada mostly have very nice RV Parks but without question those in British Columbia are really terrific.
What makes them so exceptional?

The government operated parks in the USA and Canada mostly have very nice RV Parks but without question those in British Columbia are really terrific.
What makes them so exceptional?
- Location.
The government has chosen to place their parks in the most scenic and idyllic locations.
It also helps that the province enjoys a wonderful canopy of huge trees and strictly remove only those trees that are necessary to create the park.
- Huge, private campsites.
You will not find trailers, motor homes and tents parked with only six feet of space between them.
Not only are the campsites spacious with plenty of room for the largest RV, but the campsites are far apart and in most instances the space between sites are tree covered.
Along with the space comes a beautiful picnic table with planks four inches thick and mostly are varnished with the beauty of the wood showing through.
Fire rings are ready for your evening campfire.
- Washrooms.
Not only are they well placed for convenience sake but the quality is top notch.
Where the parks are large, outdoor pit toilets are strategically located to save you a long walk if necessary.
- Reservation System.
In British Columbia you may simply drive into one of the park campgrounds, find an empty site, and set up your outfit.
However first you should stop at the information kiosk and read the park registration rules because in British Columbia there is a park reservation system that can be accessed by phone or internet.
Campers may book reservations months in advance.
Green cards are placed on the reserved sites.
If you arrive in the park and set up on such a site, you will be required to move when the reserved rig shows up.
What we do if we do not have a reservation is find a site without the card and set up there.
However the reservation system is very popular and increasingly so and this option simply is very chancy especially near the more heavily populated areas.
