How to Trim From Carpet to Tile
- 1). Lay a tape measure at one side of the seam and measure across to the other side to determine the width. Most seams occur in doorways so you should measure between the door jamb.
- 2). Lay the t-molding trim on the floor and use the tape measure to locate where it must be cut to fit into your installation area. Mark the area with a black marker. Flip the trim over to the rubber side and make a corresponding mark on the rubber with the marker.
- 3). Grasp the rubber section and pull it out away from the trim. Cut along the marker line with sharp scissors.
- 4). Pick up the other section of the t-molding trim. Cut along the marker line with a hack saw to trim it to size.
- 5). Insert the rubber section back onto the molding by aligning the edges and pressing it firmly into place.
- 6). Apply a 1/4-inch wide bead of construction adhesive in the gap on the floor between the carpet and the tile.
- 7). Place the t-molding on top of the seam with the rubber side facing downward and push it firmly into place. Place a heavy wooden block on either end of the trim to hold it in place for 24 hours until it dries.
