If you find yourself staring at a blue screen with white error messages on your monitor, you are having a close encounter with the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD).
Officially known as "stop error" or "bug check", this error screen is displayed when the Microsoft Windows operating system encounters a critical, non-recoverable error, which is likely to cause the system to crash.
The Stop 0x000000D1 is one such error message, which is commonly displayed on the BSoD, and it could be caused by several factors.
It may be due to an outdated processor, which is often the case with Intel Pentium M processors installed with Microsoft Windows XP SP2.
If the Intelppm.
sys processor driver was not installed, expect a visit from BSoD.
If it happens in a Windows XP environment while shutting down your system, this could be resolved by simply upgrading to the latest service pack.
The problem could occur while installing or upgrading Microsoft Windows Vista.
This might be the result of hardware or driver incompatibilities.
Check and see if your hardware components are compatible with Windows Vista.
If you are really insistent on the software upgrade, you have no choice but to replace the conflicting part.
And make sure that your drivers are up to date.
There are driver update tools available in the net.
It may also be necessary for you to re-install your drivers to ascertain that they are not corrupted.
Sometimes this stop error is an indication that the system has attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high.
This could have been caused by a faulty device driver, a mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile.
Again, you have to update and if necessary re-install your drivers, make sure that the hardware components are compatible, and perform the appropriate adjustments in the Virtual Memory Manager to correct possible damage in the pagefile.
More often than not, an errant registry is the culprit.
Corrupt registry entries pile up when you install and delete programs and this causes your registry to unduly use up resources and overload.
Aside from the likely visit from BSoD, this pile up will cause software conflicts and degrade your computer's performance.
To remove 0x000000D1 you should check your registry for errors and repair all of them.
The Windows registry is the database of operating system configuration settings and options.
It contains all the data required to perform every basic function of your computer system.
Every software and hardware activity can add and remove information in the registry, and this adds to the complication of its operation.
Needless to say, it is quite sensitive and erroneous deletions of registry files will cause your operating system to malfunction.
If you lack the technical knowhow to do registry repair, it is best to leave it to computer technicians.
Of course another option would be to utilize commercially available registry cleaners.
An effective registry cleaner will scan your registry for corrupted files and do the necessary corrections.
Choosing the appropriate specialized software of this sort entails consideration not only of how well it fixes and cleans up your registry, but its user friendliness as well.
Especially for the non-techies, this is an important factor.
