Classroom Training

• The first phase of the training is classroom instruction. The classroom segment may contain verbal instruction, video presentation, audio presentations, written/verbal exams or a combination of these elements. The training should cover safe operating practices, pedestrian safety, re-fueling, load handling and the inspection sheet.
  
  

Hands-On Training

• A qualified forklift operator will give individual training on the actual forklifts the employee will be operating. This training should make the employee familiar with the controls of the forklift, any unique characteristics or attachments used with the forklift and safety equipment used in conjunction with the individual machine.
  
  

Hands-On Evaluation

• When the instructor and employee both feel ready the employee operates the forklift on a trial basis. At the beginning of this trial the trainer will be present at all times to observe the operator and provide instruction as required. Once the employee has demonstrated the ability to safely operate the forklift, he will be considered certified.
