A Book Review on "The China Study" by T Colin Campbell & Thomas M Campbell
The China Study was written by a PhD who grew up on a dairy farm, and began researching nutrition.
He is famous for finding organic dioxin, an environmental pollutant.
The discovery of dioxin led him to head up the China Study, the most comprehensive study on diet and health ever conducted.
During this time he published hundreds of scientific papers, sat on various expert panels for the government, and was involved in shaping a few international diet and health organizations (American Institute for Cancer Research/World Cancer Research Fund).
The reason why his information is not as widely accepted is because it is unbiased.
Done in good scientific fashion, his projects were not influenced or tampered with by anyone else's motivations.
Along the way he has witnessed some astonishing interactions at the root of our food supply.
We have been conditioned to believe that milk has lots of calcium for strong bones, meat makes us strong, eggs are a complete protein, sugar is ok, but we are mistaken and it's not our fault.
The reason for the mis-information is that these government panels are funded by meat, dairy, eggs and sugar companies.
How are we to know that we are being misled? We cannot, but now that we have this information, it is up to us to take responsibility for our health and make sure we get the right information.
Many of us have heard so many conflicting pieces of evidence, but these studies are financially bound to the meat, dairy and egg industries.
Even though these industry giants control the market, we shape the market in a much stronger way.
We vote for what kinds of food we want available to us three times a day; breakfast, lunch and dinner.
What people put their money in, the market will lean towards.
Slowly, gradually we can shift our nation's diet and therefore health status.
Our countries number one killer is heart disease, then medical care and cancer.
So if number two is true and we don't have the best medical care, then why is it the most expensive of any other country? And number one and three are related to diet.
Our diet is the Standard American Diet (SAD), which consists of lots of meat, dairy, eggs, processed food and refined sugars.
What is worse is these food create addiction in the body, so we are addicted to these foods that are not good for us.
The China Study compiled data on heart disease, cancer, diabetes, kidney, bone, eye and brain diseases, autoimmune disease, obesity.
The findings were consistent ending up with 8,000 statistically significant correlations with diet and disease.
There is only one diet; a whole-food, plant-based diet.
It is the way nature intended us to eat! If our country started eating this way, yes it would be a drastic change, so drastic that our diseases of affluence may diminish, our health care crisis will go away.
Doctors are necessary for when there is an emergency or to maintain our health, but receive less than 20 hours in nutrition, which is usually integrated into other curriculums such at nutrient metabolism and biochemical reactions.
Even the doctors are admitting they don't have the proper education in nutrition and how it affects health.
In 1985, the United Sates National Research Council found the quantity and quality of nutrition education in U.
S.
Med Schools to be largely inadequate and nothing has changed since then.
Only 2-3% of diseases can be attributed to genetics and even then, it takes the right kind of environment for genes to be turned on and off.
Perhaps that environment is acidic, like eating the Standard American Diet creates? Sunrider herbal foods and beverages led me to this book because the diet recommended by the world's leading expert on nutrition is the same diet as Sunrider.
Sunrider even has a leg up on this nutritional advice because the company has incredible quality control.
The owners are the doctors Chen.
Dr.
Te-Fu Chen is a world renowned herbalist and pharmacologist trained in the 5,000 year-old knowledge of Chinese herbs and combines this knowledge with that of pure, whole/raw/living food that is also concentrated to make up for the lack of nutrients in our soils.
The food is made in a pharmaceutical-grade factory owned by the company (not rented), something that is not required for food factories.
This is just one of the many examples of the Dr.
Chen's impecable quality control.
Dr.
Oi-Lin Chen is a licensed Western Medical Doctor and imports her knowledge into the foods as well.
The Dr.
's Chen believe that eating the right combination of whole food Chinese herbs can put the body back into balance and restore one's health, this is coined by Dr.
Chen as "The Philosophy of Regeneration.
