The Liao Dynasty was a regime founded by the ethnic minority called Khitan living in the north of China. In 907, one of the Khitan leaders, Yelu Abaoji, after unifying all Khitan tribes in late Tang Dynasty, acceded to the khan, and then established the Khitan Empire in 916. In 926, Yelu Abaoji died of illness. In 927, under the support of Yelu Abaoji's wife, Yelu Deguang usurped his brother's throne. In 947, Yelu Deguang captured the capital of the Later Jin (Kaifeng) and officially changed the Khitan Empire as the Liao Dynasty.
In 947, Yelu Ruan, the son of Yelu Bei, was acclaimed emperor after Yelu Deguang died. During his reign, a series of reforms in politics transformed the Liao Dynasty from a tribal confederation into a centralized country. In 951, Yelu Ruan was murdered by Yelu Cage who was killed soon by Yelu Jing, the following emperor of the Liao Dynasty.
In 969, Yelu Jing was killed by his eunuch and Yelu Xian was elected as the new emperor. During his reign, Yelu Xian made great efforts in the state affairs and didn't attack the Central Plains affordable China tours actively. In 982, Yulu Xian died and his 12-year-old son Yelu Longxu succeeded the throne.

From then on, these two dynasties made peace with each other for over one hundred years. In 1031, Yelu Longxu died and his eldest son Yelu Zongzhen took the throne. After Yelu Zongzhen, the successor was his son Yelu Hongji.
During the reign of Yelu Hongji, the Liao Dynasty was corrupt and gradually declined. In 1101 when Yelu Hongji died, Yelu Yanxi acceded the throne. During his reign, the leader of the Jurchen tribes, Wanyan Aguda, raised troops against the Liao Dynasty China travel videos and built the Jin Dynasty. In 1125, Yelu Yanxi was captured by the Jin troops and the Liao Dynasty was destroyed.
