How to Bake With Vintage Cookware
- 1). Turn over the cookware you want to use for your recipe and see if there is a manufacturer's name on it. If there is, research the cookware and find out if any special care is needed or if the material it's made of is now known to be dangerous. Lead in the cookware is a reason not to use it, for example.
- 2). Err on the side of caution if you don't know the manufacturer. Glass cookware may not be oven safe, so if it's not marked and you're not sure, use something else. Metal cookware will be oven safe in almost all cases, marked or not.
- 3). Care for vintage pieces as though they were brand new. In most cases, vintage cookware should be washed by hand, because a dishwasher will be too harsh and could take off any decoration or finish.
- 4). Avoid putting your vintage cookware in the microwave if you're not positive that it can withstand the heat.
