Why Are My Apps Not Downloading From the Android Market?

    Connection

    • The primary reason for a download to fail is the lack of a proper data connection. Check the upper right corner of your Android device's home screen to confirm that it is connected to a cellular network or Wi-Fi. Without a connection to a data network, the device cannot transfer the necessary data to download the application. Contact your Internet or cellular service provider if you are unable to properly connect to a network.

    Accounts

    • To download applications from the Android Market, Google requires that your device is signed in to Google Talk. Applications from the Android Market are linked to your Google account and not the device itself, allowing you to download paid apps on other devices without an additional charge. While your device has likely been signed in since its activation, when first entering your Google account information, launching the Google Talk app, signing out and relaunching the app to enter the information again can confirm this. In addition, if you're attempting to download a paid application, downloads can fail if you do not have your current payment information linked to your Google Checkout account.

    Other Issues

    • Downloads can also fail if you have insufficient space available for the application's files. Check the requirements on the application's Android Market page for device requirements. If you're still experiencing download errors, clearing the Android Market and Download Manager's cache may alleviate the problem. Press the "Menu" button at the home screen, tap "Settings," followed by "Applications" and "Manage Applications," to locate this option. One application at a time, select the Android Market and Download Manager apps, and tap "Clear Data" and "Clear Cache" to remove the stored information.

    Further Troubleshooting

    • If you've exhausted all other options and are still experiencing download issues, there may be a problem that is related to your specific Android device. Google provides email and phone support for the Android Market and can assist you with download issues. Your device's manufacturer and service provider may also be able to troubleshoot these errors for you.
