How to Remove a Hard Drive From 80Gb iPod
- 1). Use a small and thin flat-head screwdriver to open the case. Slide the screwdriver just in between the two parts of the case. Place the iPod on the corner of a table and hold it tight with one hand while you use your other hand to press down on the screwdriver---like a lever.
- 2). Once the iPod case begins to separate from itself, listen for some small popping or clicking sounds. This is normal. Before the whole case comes apart, turn the iPod around so that its face is lying on the table and the back of the device is facing you.
- 3). Continue to pull the iPod back cover from the rest of the cover. Do this carefully, to make sure none of the latches inside the iPod are broken as the two sides are being pulled apart. Breaking a tab may prevent the iPod from staying tightly closed when the case is put back together.
- 4). After you have removed the case, notice the piece inside the iPod that has bumpers around it, as well as some foam glued around it. It is probably blue. At the base of the iPod, there is an IDE connection. You can unplug the hard drive from here and pull it out. Be careful not to unplug the ribbon plug.
You have now successfully removed the hard drive from an 80 GB iPod. You are free to modify the current hard drive, replace it with a new hard drive or do whatever else you intended to do when you began taking the hard drive out.
