Where to Sell a Junk Car
- 1). Use your junk car as a trade-in for a new car. Most car lots have a "push it, pull it, drag it" policy regarding trade-ins. What this means is that any car you bring, even if it does not run, will be applied to the down payment on a new car. This is often the best way to get the most value from your junk car.
- 2). Take your car to the local junkyard. These locations typically pay a flat scrap rate based on the car's weight. The junkyard will sell as many parts as possible from the car before scrapping the rest and melting it for its scrap-metal value.
- 3). List your car in the classified ads of your local newspaper. Every newspaper has a section in the classifieds to list cars for sale. Just make sure that you directly mention that the car is a junked automobile being sold for parts or scrap.
- 4). Post your ad on craigslist.org. The Craigslist website is the same as the classified advertisements in your local newspaper, except that the ad is on the Internet and free of charge. The distinct advantage to a classified on Craigslist is that you can include photographs of the junk car you are selling.
