I Want to Learn How to Meditate, But How Do I Know If I Am Meditating Right

Would you like to learn how to meditate the right way? What is the right way to mediate? Here is a hint.
That was a trick question.
The truth is, while there are techniques you can use to help you to relax, focus, and go into deeper trance states, there is no "right" way to meditate, and consequently, no wrong way, either.
I always start my meditation experience with a new student by asking the simple question, "What do you want?' The answers vary, but usually they want to relax, find inner peace, control stress, stop worrying, find their life's purpose, etc.
All of these benefits may be gained from meditation, especially guided meditation.
Guided meditation is known as active meditation.
It means that the person who is meditating is doing so actively by controlling the thoughts he or she is using.
So the only way to do meditation wrong, is to do it in such a way that you will not get what you want.
Meditation is an individual experience that should serve the needs of the individual.
Don't worry about what other people say or think.
As long as you are doing your best and know what you want, that is enough.
Of course, there are ways to get what you want quicker or more easily.
One way to get into a deep meditative state is to use a guide.
An experienced meditation guide will know what to say and how to guide your thoughts so that you reach the meditative state, also known as the alpha state, more easily.
Why is it important to reach the alpha state quickly and as easily as possible? It has been my experience that the more frustrated people get as they try to settle down and meditate, the harder it is to settle down and meditate the next time.
If a good meditation teacher can get you into a deep state of relaxation quickly, you will know what it feels like when you are in the alpha state.
Once you have been there, it will be that much easier to get there again.
Therefore, while there is now right or wrong way to meditate, there are things you can do to make it easier and to get there quicker.
Perhaps the surest way to succeed at anything, including meditation, is to have a good guide or teacher.
