Five New Ways to Use a Coleman LED Lantern

105 29
Do you remember when the last thunderstorm knocked out your power? Did you fumble around looking in drawers for the candles€¦then the matches to light them? Or did you simply switch on your Coleman LED Lantern?

Most people think of lanterns as items to take on a camping trip€¦and many campers do exactly that. But lanterns have many uses beyond camping. They are useful in a variety of emergency situations such as power outages due to storms or other natural disasters.

Only a few years ago, lanterns required volatile, noxious fuel that was flammable and dangerous. Most people simply did not want to keep those gasoline or kerosene lanterns in the house. Even hurricane lamps were taboo. Nowadays, with the advent of the low-power, high-brightness LED (Light Emitting Diode) lanterns, it is safe to keep a number of them in the house and garage€¦even one in every room. No need to search for candles and matches or even a flashlight.

Here are five ways (other than camping) to use your Coleman LED Lantern that you probably never considered.

1. Nightstand light. Instead of using a traditional table lamp with a 60, 75 or 100 watt bulb, use the Coleman LED Lantern on your bedside table instead. It can be set to high output for reading or low output for watching TV. Consuming only 4 to 7 watts, the Lantern can reduce your energy consumption dramatically. Keep an extra rechargeable battery plugged in the outlet so you won't run out of power.

2. End Table Lamp. Most end table lamps have 50-100-150 watt three-way bulbs that generate a LOT of heat and consume a LOT of electricity. Use the lantern to reduce power consumption while still providing sufficient light, even at the low setting, to watch TV. At the high setting you have plenty of light for reading.

3. Reading light. Use a hanging LED lantern hanging behind your favorite reading chair to provide a reading light in your bedroom, living room, den, or library. If the diffuse light is insufficient for your eyes, use a lantern model that has a beam or focusing capability to provide spot lighting on your book.

4. Roadside emergency light. Keeping a Coleman LED Lantern in your car will provide you plenty of light if your car decides to crap out on a lonely highway€¦or even on a crowded freeway! Some of the lantern models have flashing capability as well as their regular lighting functions. Changing a tire in the dark is a scary proposition at best, but changing a tire with a bright LED lantern nearby is easier and far less frightening.

5. Walking light. Do you like to walk for exercise but get home after dark sometimes? I'll bet you're not very comfortable taking a walk in your neighborhood after dark, even with reflector strips on your clothing. Take a Coleman Personal Mini LED Lantern with you! It's lightweight and provides lots of light output so that you can see where you're going€¦and others can see you as well. Unless you're planning on taking 20-mile hike at night, the batteries will last as long as you need them€¦and you can recharge it when you arrive back home.

So there you are. I bet you can come up with lots more uses for an LED lantern. How about nighttime gardening (it's a lot cooler!). Grilling or barbecuing in the dark. (Don't you just hate it when you can't see what you're cooking?) Keeping the kids safe for Halloween trick or treating.

And then, of course, you could always go camping!
