How to Build a Vegetable A-Frame

    • 1). Lay two 6-foot long two-by-fours parallel to each other with 4 feet of space between them. Lay two 4 1/2 foot boards over the two at the top and the bottom to form a square. Place one 4-foot piece 6 inches up from the edge of the longer boards. Secure the shorter boards to the longer boards with three wood screws on each end.

    • 2). Build an identical wood square frame to the first one. Lay the squares next to each other so the 4-foot long ends that sit at the edge of the longer boards meet. Install two hinges between the two so you can fold up the frames to form a V shape.

    • 3). Roll chicken wire over the open sections of wood frame. Pull it taut and secure it to the wood using a staple gun. Place the staples so the prongs go between the wires instead of through them.

    • 4). Fold up the frames and have an assistant help you care the construct out to your vegetable bed. Position the construct so the 4-food board that is 6-inches from the edges of the longer boards faces the soil.

    • 5). Pull open the sides of the construct until you achieve the A-frame shape you desire. Hammer on the top with rubber mallets to help the frame sink into the soil by a few inches.
