Weinsteins Acquire Tribeca Film Festival Hit, "Transamerica"
May 12, 2005 - Weinstein Co. has acquired the North American distribution rights to the indie drama/comedy, "Transamerica," starring Felicity Huffman ("Desperate Housewives), Kevin Zegers, Fionnula Flanagan, and Graham Greene.
Duncan Tucker wrote and directed the film, which had its North American premiere at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival. "Transamerica" is the story of a pre-operative transsexual (Huffman) who goes on a road trip from New York City to Los Angeles with a male hustler.
In a statement to Variety Harvey Weinstein said, "Felicity Huffman gives an amazing performance, and we are excited about distributing Duncan Tucker's wonderfully funny, intelligent and beautifully crafted film."
ContentFilm acquired the rights to distribute "Transamerica" overseas.
