How to Install Data Cabling
- 1). Place the box of cable at the origination point. This is the central point where all the cables will run back to. It is often a small room where the network equipment will be set up.
- 2). Run pull string from the destination point to the origination point. Pull string is usually sold in a bucket, and can be run back using any number of tools. Fish tape is a flexible metal band that can be used to fish the pull string into tight areas. Pull string can also be attached to plug that is fired from a spring loaded gun, or sucked through conduit by a vacuum cleaner. However you choose to run the string will depend on how far the string must be run and how many obstacles you must go around.
- 3). Tie the pull string to the data cable and pull the string back to the destination point. Have someone at the origination point helping to feed the cable from the box as the cable can become tangled. Repeat the steps for each run, and terminate the cable as needed for each run.
