Horses are beautiful, loyal animals that inspire and excite people of all ages. Many children dream of owning a horse. Horse-inspired birthday parties not only cater to this dream, but they are easy to organize and present many opportunities for birthday-party-game ideas that can keep young party guests entranced with hours of fun and adventure. - Divide kids into teams. Set up a race course around your yard using rope to define the boundaries of the course. Use broomsticks or the stick ponies you can often find at a store. Since this is a relay race, you only need one for each team. The object is for the children to gallop around the race course on their stick ponies, tagging their teammates as they return to the starting line. The first team to finish is the winner.
- Hang a large picture of a horse on the wall and make a tail out of yarn. This game is a horse-themed take on pin the tail on the donkey. Blindfold players and let them take turns pinning the tail on the horse. The player who comes closest to getting the tail in place wins a prize.
- This game is ideal for a kids' birthday party. It's easy to set up and can help keep children occupied for an extended period of time. You can purchase a plastic set of horseshoes that are lighter and therefore much easier and safer for children to throw. Divide kids in teams or let them play this one individually.
- Horses love apples. Hang apples on a tree by string and let kids take turns at eating an apple. The catch is, they can't use their hands. Trying to get a bite from the apple while it's swinging back and forth is challenging. This is a take on bobbing for apples, which you can also play.
- Fill a jar with gummy horses (see resources) and let kids guess how many are in the jar. The child who comes closest is the winner. If you live in an area that has horse ranches and the expense isn't too much, you can offer a pony ride as a prize. Many areas have horse ranches that offer trail rides accompanied by a ranch staff. They can be expensive but fun.
