Auto Insurance Policy - Is It Necessary to Actually Read It?

103 39
If you are looking for great auto insurance at a great price, you need to know what to look for.
You need to know what is essential and what you can make an educated decision about eliminating.
You do also need to actually read your policy.
I found out just recently that the small print can be a big problem.
I was checking in for a flight with an airline that makes a big deal about the convenience of booking on-line.
I had booked on-line with my credit card which in the ensuing two months I had worn out.
It was replaced and had substantially the same number; just the last four numbers were different.
It had the same name, mine, but it wasn't the same card.
So I was told I could not board.
It seems I should have kept that worn out credit card as proof that I was the person who booked the ticket.
It was all there in the small print along with the information about not boarding anyone with an e-ticket if the computers are down.
Now is any of that convenient? To cut this short, I eventually got on the plane and gritted my teeth through the ads about on-line booking.
Now why did I tell you all this? Well principally to demonstrate the need to read the small print in your auto insurance policy.
Make sure you know who is insured under the insurance agreement, such as you, the people in your household and others who are driving with your permission.
Make sure you read the declaration page.
This tells you what is covered.
It also tells you how much will be paid for each different type of coverage.
Make sure you know what those letters mean, those ones like PIP, PD and BI.
Ask about collision and comprehensive and relate what you learn to the car you drive.
I'm thinking that if you have an expensive car, you can probably afford the extra that these two cost.
But if you drive something on the cheap side, you may well be in the market to save by reducing or eliminating these.
And don't forget to review the level of the deductibles, the amount you agree to pay if you have a crash.
Getting a great auto insurance policy seems like a gamble at times.
But if you understand the system, you can have a shot at beating it and getting that cheaper auto insurance you were looking for.
