How to Troubleshoot Maytag Ranges
- 1). Make sure there's power. Check and reset the circuit breaker if the range won't switch on. Take a look at the control panel; a lack of lights is a dead giveaway there's no power.
- 2). Look for indications on the control panel that programs have been set that can stop the range from cooking. Delayed cooking, self-cleaning, Sabbath mode and control locks are all problem areas. Verify that the oven isn't set for a delayed start if the oven won't self-clean. Make sure the door is closed. Check that the oven isn't over 400 degrees. The self-clean mode won't start if the oven is too hot.
- 3). Wait for the oven to cool down if the oven door won't unlock after a self-clean cycle. Allow about an hour for the oven to cool after the self-clean cycle completes.
- 4). Check to make sure the oven is level if you get unexpected results. Remember that temperatures often vary between a new oven and an old one. As ovens get older the temperature can drift.
- 5). Trim excess fat from meat before broiling. Don't use soiled broiler pans. Check the oven rack positions if food isn't broiling properly or smokes excessively; food may be too close the elements.
