Watercolor: How to Paint a Deep Turquoise Lake
- 1). Sketch an outline of the landscape on watercolor paper, using a pencil. Draw the outline gently. Avoid making heavy or thick lines.
- 2). Wet the sky area with a small amount of water using a brush. Apply a layer of blue paint to the top of the sky with a large, flat brush. Work down the page so the color gets lighter as the paint on the brush runs out. This creates a gradient.
- 3). Create clouds in the sky by rolling a clean, damp brush across the wet paint. This will pull some of the color out of the sky and leave white clouds behind.
- 4). Mix two parts of bright blue paint to one part of green paint on the palette for a deep shade of turquoise. Use a large, round brush to paint the lake. Apply more color in the center and less near the shores. Create waves or light reflections by removing color with a clean, damp brush.
- 5). Paint in any other details, such as rocks or trees, working from the background to the foreground.
