- 1). Graduate from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in an area of need for the Navy Reserve. You must also have a satisfactory grade point average to meet eligibility requirements. The requirements for minimum grade point average will vary by applicant based on the type of degree program you were enrolled in.
- 2). Speak to a Navy Reserve Officer Recruiter to begin the process of enlisting in the Navy Reserve as an officer. The recruiter will ensure you meet the minimum requirements to join the Navy Reserve as an officer. Your recruiter is your best source of information for enlisting in the Navy Reserve due to the needs of the Navy Reserve at the time of your application and your background when applying.
- 3). Pass a Navy Reserve medical examination provided by the Navy Reserve to you at no cost. Some jobs in the Navy Reserve will require a different or more thorough medical examination, based on the needs of that job. For instance, to become a pilot in the Navy Reserve, an applicant will have to pass a flight physical on top of any other medical examination requirements.
- 4). Attend the Direct Commission Officer Indoctrination Course after you've officially enlisted in the Navy Reserve to become a commissioned officer. The Direct Commission Officer Indoctrination Course is a two-week long course and is located in Newport, Rhode Island. During the course you will learn about the history, customs and traditions of the Navy.
