Oprah"s Karaoke Challenge Finals - Show Recap

Show Summary:

After eight semi-finalists were cut down to three the previous week, the finalists spent days getting ready for battle it out for America's votes. Abraham, Donnie and Rob returned to perform again with hopes of winning Oprah's first Karaoke Challenge. To help voters decide, Oprah welcomed a new panel of guests for this round, which included David Foster, Diane Warren and L.A.


Reid. In addition to new judges, Oprah also had the finalists practice with vocal coach to the stars, Ken Hicks.

This episode featured the following highlights:
  • After introductions and a recap of the semi-final round, the three finalists got started with their new song selections.

  • Abraham performed "Get Here" to rave reviews.

  • Rob went next with Boston's "Piece of Mind" which earned him solid reviews, but judges thought it wasn't the best song selection.

  • Donnie sang "It's Your Love" with some nerves, but was commended for his tone and sensitivity.

  • Oprah also threw the contestants a curve by having them draw randomly one of four top karaoke songs to sing on the spot.

  • Abraham again went first with "My Girl" and the judges thought he performed it well. Donnie drew "Sweet Caroline" and the judges were surprised he had never attempted to sing the song before. Rob's version of "I Can't Make You Love Me" surprised the judges as they thought it was a song he would struggle with.

What to Take Away from the Show:

After watching each of the contestants for Oprah's Karaoke Challenge perform and share their stories, it was evident that which each of them had experienced struggles in their lives, the competition was invigorating their spirit, confidence, and joy. It is part of Oprah's show and life that she help others achieve their dreams, and this competition is just one more way in which she took regular viewers at home and helped give them an opportunity of a lifetime.
