Dump Truck Maintenance
- Before running a dump truck, the operator should perform basic maintenance, such as checking the tire pressure and assessing fuel levels. Emergency equipment--such as a first-aid kit, fire extinguisher and reflectors--should also be examined and restocked.
- Companies should perform all other maintenance tasks on a regular basis, following the suggested schedule of the organization. Items such as oil, belts, batteries, brakes, lights, hydraulics and meters need regular attention.
- Workers should never attempt maintenance under a raised dump truck bed without putting stable props under the dump truck bed. Dual protections, such as a crane coupled with supports, are highly recommended.
