Are they easy to clean, or will they always show the evidence of the trips to the kitchen for a snack? Well, the truth is they do need to be cleaned a certain way and need proper care to look bright and shiny.
Using a microfiber cloth, pour straight rubbing alcohol onto it and then rub on the exterior of the fridge.
This will remove any finger marks.
It will also dull the surface.
In order to restore the sheen, use a small amount of petroleum jelly, WD-40 or a special steel polish.
This also helps in sealing and protecting the fridge.
Finally, buffing the entire surface with mineral oil or baby oil will really pull out the shiny original gleam.
Buff until the cloth is dry.
The more you rub the oil into the surface, the better able it can withstand finger marks.
Heat marks can be removed with vinegar.
Dark areas that are slightly discolored are caused be hot items placed too near the steel.
Pour a little bit of vinegar on a cloth and they should come off with a brief wiping down.
The more time you spend polishing your stainless steel fridge the better it will look.
It is not hard to clean, but it does involve persistence and a willingness to keep it up.
Follow the natural grain of the steel.
You may have to look closely to figure out the direction, but it will have one.
Typically it will run vertically, but sometimes it may go horizontal or be one way on the side and another on the front.
Avoid using any type of abrasive cleanser.
The grains can ruin the smooth steel finish.
It is best dust the entire unit before attempting to clean as well.
This will prevent any dust particles from marring the exterior as you polish it.
The inside of a stainless steel fridge is cleaned like any other fridge.
Remove the shelves, wash, dry and put back.
If you need to defrost the fridge make sure to store perishable foods in your freezer while defrosting it.
You can leave the freezer on and the main compartment turned off for cleaning purposes such as this.
Keeping the inside and outside clean will preserve your investment and increase the beauty of your kitchen.
