How to Blend Your Own Hydroponic Fertilizers
- 1). Place a square of waxed paper on the kitchen scale. Carefully measure 7 1/2 oz. superphosphate into the bowl on the scale. Gather the corners of the waxed paper to move the superphosphate aside. Repeat with the potassium sulfate, sodium nitrate, calcium nitrate, magnesium sulfate and iron sulfate.
- 2). Set out the remaining four squares of waxed paper. Use measuring spoons to measure out the boric acid powder, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, and zinc sulfate.
- 3). In a nonreactive bowl, mix the superphosphate, potassium sulfate, sodium nitrate, calcium nitrate and magnesium sulfate.
- 4). Combine the remaining ingredients in the other bowl and mix well. Transfer the mix to the mortar and pestle and grind to a fine powder.
- 5). If you have noticed a specific nutrient deficiency in your plants, you can make minor adjustments to the formula to increase or decrease certain nutrients.
- 6). Add the powder mix to the first bowl of ingredients and mix the two thoroughly.
- 7). Measure 1 tsp. of your nutrient mix into the quart jar. Fill with water, screw the lid on securely and shake vigorously to mix the nutrient concentrate. Use 1 liquid oz. of the nutrient concentrate for every three gallons of water in your nutrient reservoir.
