How do I Make a Slipcover Stay in Place?

104 10

    Tuck It

    • Tuck all excess fabric under cushions, between the seat and the arms, and into corners and crevices. Use a spatula or wooden spoon for tight and deep areas, or ask someone to help you if you find that tucking in one area pulls the slipcover out of another.

    Use Leverage

    • Roll up a magazine and put rubber bands around it, then stick the magazine between the seat and the arms or wherever the slipcover tends to pull up most often. A "noodle" you take to the pool may fit between the cushions and the back of a long couch.

    Use a Mat

    • Place a nonskid mat normally used under an area rug on the seat of your upholstered piece of furniture before arranging the slipcover over it. You can even cut the mat to fit your cushions.

    Buy Clips and Grips

    • Use plastic slips and rubber grips made especially to help keep slipcovers in place. You can buy them online or in home decorating stores.
