How to Convert a Photo to a Canvas Transfer
- 1). Brush a thin coating of acrylic gel medium onto the image side of the image you wish to transfer, covering the entire image. Ask a representative at your craft store to recommend the best acrylic gel medium for direct-image transfers.
- 2). Place the image to be transferred face down on the canvas where you want the image to be transferred to. Press the image down firmly and smooth out any air bubbles.
- 3). Allow the acrylic gel medium to dry completely. Depending on the brand of acrylic gel medium, this can take anywhere from four to 10 hours.
- 4). Wet the back of the image you transferred onto the canvas. Allow the water to seep into the paper.
- 5). Rub the paper gently with your hand or a sponge as it becomes saturated. The paper will begin to peel off and separate itself from the image that is now fixed into the dry acrylic gel medium.
- 6). Check for areas where the paper was not fully removed when the acrylic gel medium has dried. The paper can be difficult to see when the transfer is wet, but will reappear as the transfer dries.
