How to Dispute Medical Information on a Credit Report
- 1). Order a credit report. Order an online or hard copy credit report from each of the three credit reporting bureaus. You can contact Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion by phone or online.
- 2). Look for inaccurate medical information. Once you obtain a copy of your credit report from each of the three bureaus, highlight or mark the medical information you wish to dispute.
- 3). Write a letter/email of dispute for each medical listing that is incorrect. Next, you need to write a letter explaining which medical item(s) on the credit report you are disputing and why you are disputing these items.
- 4). Submit your letter of dispute to the credit agency. Once you have written out each disputed item and why you are disputing the item, submit the letter to each agency. Each credit agency has a mailing address where you will need to mail your letter of dispute. You will also find instructions on how to submit the dispute online.
- 5). Wait for a decision and to receive a new credit report. It can take up to 30 days for the credit agencies to respond, but you will receive an acceptance or denial of the dispute from each agency within a specified time period. Each agency will also provide you with a new copy of your credit report.
