How to Keep Moisture Off Your Windows in Your Home
- 1). Open your home's windows slightly if the weather is not too cold. This allows the outside air, which is colder and drier, to mix with the warm, moist air around your windows.
- 2). Reduce the amount of humidity in the house. Run exhaust fans during baths, showers and cooking. Reduce the number of houseplants in your home. Do not hang damp laundry indoors to dry. Make sure your dryer vent goes outside the house and is well-sealed. All of these methods help control the warm and moist conditions that lead to window condensation.
- 3). Set your home's thermostat fan to run continuously. This will circulate air in the home even when heat is not coming out into the system.
- 4). Open window curtains to allow the air in your home to circulate around the window and dry any moisture that may accumulate.
- 5). Add a dehumidifier to your home's HVAC system to eliminate moisture in the air. For a less expensive option, place portable humidifiers in problem areas.
