How to Replace RAM in a Dell Laptop
- 1). Shut down your Dell laptop, then close the LCD screen. Disconnect the power cable and all external devices and peripherals from the laptop. Place the laptop face down, and then locate and remove the battery pack from the bottom casing of the laptop.
- 2). Locate the RAM compartment's plastic cover on the bottom casing of the laptop. Refer to your Dell laptop's user manual for the exact location on your specific model. Remove the Phillips-head screw securing the RAM compartment's cover, then remove the cover from the laptop. This will reveal one or two RAM modules, depending on the model.
- 3). Spread the locking latches on either side of the RAM module. Tilt the RAM module upward slightly, then slide the module out of its memory compartment. Repeat for the other module, if applicable.
- 4). Align the notches on the replacement RAM module with the notches inside the memory compartment. Tilt the RAM module upward slightly, then slide the module into the compartment until the locking latches snap the RAM module into place.
