    • 1). Inspect the lint trap to see if it's full. Significant clumps of lint can inhibit moisture from leaving the dryer. Check the lint trap holder as well for lint and debris.

    • 2). Inspect you laundry to see if there are any large items of thick materiel that are completely damp. For instance, soaking wet towels can inhibit drying of other items.

    • 3). Examine the heating element's connecting points by opening up the access panel and following the dryer schematics. A broken heating element will produce no heat at all, but one with loose connections might provide intermittent heat, leading you to believe it's always working.

    • 4). Examine the dryer's thermostats, which regulate its temperature. A defective thermostat can cause the heating element to shut down prematurely because each thermostat regulates different drying cycles. Look for broken wires leading to the thermostat or broken parts.

    • 5). Check the timing motor to see if it's fully operational. A broken or intermittent timer motor may cause heat to come on and off at the wrong times. You can test the timer motor by checking each wire's resistance using the dryer's schematic diagram and the resistance meter.
