Happy Cat is possibly the most famous cat on the internet, yet most people have never heard of him.If it weren't for this gray British Shorthair cat named Frank, there would be no LOLcats, and possibly no Cheezburger network. You could even postulate that if it weren't for Happy Cat, the internet wouldn't be such a cat-loving place at all.Oh, the humanity!

In 2003, a forum user on the humor site Something Awful uploaded an image of Frank, who was the mascot for a Russian cat food company called, "Happy Cat."A few years later, in 2007, an unknown web user took the Happy Cat image and added a simple line of text to the top of the picture, creating what we now think of as a traditional meme. The caption?"I can haz cheezburger?"

Next thing you know, LOLcats were born.A site called I Can Has Cheezburger (ICHC) sprang into existence and took the Happy Cat meme and ran with it.These days, ICHC is one of the most visited humor sites online and has branched off into non-LOLcat-related territory too.All because of Frank, the Happy Cat.More »
