How to Trace Blocked Numbers on Home Phones
- 1). Contact the phone company to inquire about Call Trace. Some phone companies automatically equip home phones with this feature, but charge a pay-per-use fee. Request the feature if it is not a part of the phone package.
- 2). Answer the blocked call and hang up. Immediately enter "*57" using the phone keypad. Dial "1157" on rotary phones. The user must enter the code before another call comes through on the phone or the trace will be ineffective. An automated message indicates whether the trace is successful.
- 3). Hang up the phone and contact the local police department to file a complaint. Some jurisdictions require two or three successful call traces before initiating legal action.
