High Fructose Corn Syrup and Obesity
It is amazing to me how the obesity pandemic is flooding our country and even effecting young children well before they even reach puberty. What is the reason for this problem in our country? Is it normal to see a four, five or even six year old obese? I think not! We must stop and really take a hard look at what is the core reason for this obesity pandemic. First let's start with the chemistry aspect of what high fructose corn syrup is versus cane sugar.

Cane sugar is :

So what does this mean? Our bodies must break down these compounds when they enter the body through the digestive tract. What this means is that our bodies cannot break down the glucose and fructose in the high fructose corn syrup because they are not bound together like cane sugar, resulting in a very rapid absorption into the blood stream. The fructose hits the liver like a jet and triggers the production of fats like triglycerides and cholesterol and the glucose creates a huge spike in insulin.
