Dampwood Termites - What You Need to Know About This Type of Termites

These swarmers are male and female termites with wings.
These termites with wings are often the ones who are able to start their own colonies.
Once these males and females have already paired, the wings will be shed off.
As the name implies,this species of termites generally feed on wood that has moisture, such as rotting wood, decaying timber, and damp wood.
Naturally, this type of specie is found at the states in the Pacific coast.
These dampwoods are much larger as compared to the subterranean termites.
The soldier termites of this specie have a large reddish brown head with large mandibles.
This kind of termites is swarming at some time in January to October.
Unlike subterranean type of termites, these dampwoods are not creating shelter tubes.
This is because this specie is not requiring any contact with soil.
Aside from that, they are only eating damp wood or woods that have high moisture content.
Because of that, their colonies are usually wood dwelling.
They are commonly found among dead trees, stumps, and fallen timber.
