How to Replace a DLP Light Bulb
- 1). Turn off the TV and unplug it. If the TV has been running, allow it to cool at least 30 minutes before unplugging it. Leaving the TV plugged in allows the fan to cool the bulb.
- 2). Unscrew the lamp's protective panel. The lamp assembly is generally located at the back of the set or on either side, near the rear of the set. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to take out the screws that secure the protective panel in place. Pull the panel off. Keep all screws organized as you will be reusing them.
- 3). Unmount the lamp assembly. Loosen the screws that fasten the lamp assembly to the TV. On some models, the screws can be loosened but will remain attached to the assembly. Grab the plastic handle on the lamp assembly and pull the unit straight out.
- 1). Remove the metal portion of the lamp assembly. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the metal portion of the housing to the plastic portion where the bulb is mounted. The location and number of screws will vary by model.
- 2). Remove the connector wire. Carefully unscrew the small nut that secures the connector wire to the back of the bulb with needle-nose pliers. Lift the connector wire from the connection post on the bulb.
- 3). Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the bulb to the plastic portion of the lamp assembly. Wear a pair of lint-free gloves or use a lint-free cloth to remove the old bulb. Wipe the new bulb gently with a lint-free cloth before installing it.
- 4). Secure the new bulb in the plastic portion of the housing with the four screws that held the old lamp in place. Never touch the lamp with your fingers as skin oils can create smudges that will affect the bulb's performance.
- 5). Reattach the connector wire nut with the needle-nose pliers then reattach the metal portion of the lamp assembly to the plastic portion using the Phillips head screws.
- 1). Slide the lamp assembly back into the TV until you hear a click. Reinstall the assembly screws.
- 2). Reattach the protective panel and its screws.
- 3). Plug the TV in and turn it on. Your picture should be bright and clear.
