Chainsaw Sally"s April Monique and Jimmyo Burril Interview

Season One's violence, cannibalism, raunch and good old-fashioned fun are slated for wide release from Troma Entertainment. "Back when we made the movie, (Troma head) Lloyd Kaufman fell in love with Sally, and he wanted Sally back then," JimmyO says.

"It just didn't work out at that time," says April. "They've really stepped up their game over the past few years."

"They're thriving again," says JimmyO.

"And so the new face of Troma came and started asking about Sally and we sent them the DVDs and we talked. I guess it took us a month or so to actually make the deal so that everybody was happy – and so now we've got it and were running with it, and I keep seeing (Sally) popping up everywhere, which is just amazing to us."

The Troma package is not an exact duplicate of what the Burrils were offering. "There's a handful of new extras and there's also a new little short shot specifically for this DVD – a little kill," says JimmyO. "There's a handful of new stuff on there." Plus, he adds, "The whole thing is shot in HD."

If you thought the Burrils would be ready to take a break after all of this activity, you thought wrong. In the works right now are a Christmas special -- Chainsaw Sally Saves Christmas from the Lesbian Vampire Nazis -- and new episodes for Season Two of the show.

Things are a little bit different on set this time around. JimmyO excitedly describes the changes. "The character development is much more solid.

We also have a lot more equipment, which is nice. We have real lights, and we have two professional HD cameras as opposed to one. We have better audio equipment. The other big thing," he continues, "is that Shawn Jones, who is the DP for Season One, is now going to be the director. So if Shawn directs, I can pay attention to details from the actors and be available to work the script."

A bigger budget allows for bigger stars; and season two's cast will feature some familiar -- and famous -- faces. "We have Gunnar Hansen coming back (from the Chainsaw Sally film), we have Ed Neill, and we have Debbie Rochon; she'll be in almost all of the episodes."

As Sally's character gets darker, she will meet a number of new foes, including Brandon Slagal as a killer named "Angel Eyes". "I have two main nemeses this time – a law-abiding one and a non law-abiding one," April explains.

Despite all of this bloody creative chaos, the Burrils are a family before anything else. "When there's a camera between me and April, April is not my wife. April is an actress and Sally is a character that we have developed together," says JimmyO. "At the end of the day, no matter what happens on set -- whether she is topless or she is killing or she is having sex or whatever the character is doing, at 11 o'clock at night April and I will be in bed watching Cartoon Network and going to sleep. That's how it's going to be."

"The coolest thing that's ever been said about us is we were called 'the first family of independent horror'. I just love that because it is (family); it's a family business. It's a family passion."

It is this passion, built upon such a strong foundation of family and as corny as it sounds, love, that will keep Sally and the Burrils going through thick and thin. But don't expect them to go soft. They laughed at the suggestion of doing a reality show, assuring us, "It would never make it to network!"

Let's hope, for horror's sake, that the Burrils never change.
