Decorating Ideas With Brown in a Traditional Bath
- Select a shower curtain in a rich brown. If you don't find an already made shower curtain that suits your taste, you can make one with a favorite chocolate-hued fabric. Look for texture or a pattern to give the shower curtain some depth. A damask pattern in a brown or tan, for example, would work well.
- Fill your towel bar with brown towels and washcloths. Choose a solid-colored brown here, so that the towels blend with the shower curtain and don't compete with it. Consider leaving these towels up for decor to keep that splash of brown on the walls, and use other towels after a bath or shower.
- Incorporate other brown accents in your bathroom. A textured brown rug will keep your feet warm when you step out of the shower, and it will reflect your decorative color scheme as well. Brown accessories, from toothbrush holders to soap dishes, come in a number of styles, from modern metal to rustic bamboo. Choose a style that suits your taste to amp up the brown in your bathroom.
- Paint an accent wall chocolate brown. If your bathroom gets a lot of natural light through windows or skylights, a darker accent wall can add balance. Paint a bathroom wall that gets a lot of natural light. If your bathroom isn't as bright, opt for a lighter shade of brown, such as taupe, for your accent wall.
- Your bathroom fixtures can even reflect your brown decorative scheme. Replace the handles on your drawers with deep bronze ones. They don't have to match perfectly, but the darker shade -- as opposed to, say, a silver handle -- complements the other brown accents in your bathroom well. Replace your current light fixture with one having a similarly dark finish. Or, add mirrors with rich bronze or brown frames above your vanity.
