Dog Information - How to Break Your Dog"s Bad Habits

103 41
Dogs may have a few habits that you will find annoying.
So if you want to put a stop to these bad habits, read on to find out how.
Barking Your dog may serve as a natural warning device.
But then, dogs should stop barking when told to stop.
Moreover, barking dogs when owners are not around may be bothersome to neighbors.
This is just one of the reasons why barking should be controlled as much as possible.
When your dog barks incessantly, say the word "Quiet" in a commanding voice.
If the dog continues to bark, use a negative reinforcement which is effective to your dog.
Then say "Quiet" one more time.
If the dog obeys, praise him.
Digging To prevent your dog from digging, you need to supervise him when he is out in the yard.
You can be watching him through a window or you can stay out in the yard.
The behavior must be interrupted when your dog starts to dig.
You may use something like a soaking with hose, a loud noise, or anything that your dog will want to avoid.
Food Guarding Canines are inclined to protect their food.
This is a common problem that most canine behaviorists stumble upon.
Once a dog has possession, there is a greater tendency that a dog will become more dangerous and his defensive behavior is increased when any food guarding is challenged.
After learning that violent behavior can win over food, he may use this approach to win over things like space or prize possessions.
By putting this behavior under stimulus control, this problem can be solved.
You can give your dog a food treat.
If he snaps at the treat too hard, refuse to give it to him until it is taken gently.
And make sure that you praise him when he follows your command.
With this conditioning on small treats, he will soon learn that his owner has control over the food.
He will soon learn not to jump to get his food placed in the food bowl.
Begging To start this habit, your dog only needs being fed at the table once or twice.
To put a stop to this, train your dog to obey you first.
Food treats should only be offered when your dog obeys your commands.
And take note, dogs should never be fed under the table.
Chewing Around teething time, the urge to chew starts in puppies.
It is okay if bones, hard rubbers and dog toys are chewed.
But when shoes, furniture, and rugs are chewed, you would surely be upset.
Dogs usually chew when they feel bored, isolated, stressed and anxious.
The best approach to prevent this bad habit includes confining him when you are not around, supervising him when he is active and exercising the dog regularly.
