When Is the Best Time to Plant Corn in Georgia?
- Corn is susceptible to frost damage, but it is not as tender as many other garden plants. Planting too early can result in stunted growth and damaged plants from frost, but waiting too long to plant can lead to pest problems. Most gardeners plant corn when the soil is about 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
- February through April is the usual corn planting season in Georgia, starting sooner farther south. You can plant as late as May, but corn planted after April is more likely to be affected by insects and disease.
- Corn should be planted in an area that receives ample sunlight; eight to 10 hours a day is ideal. The soil should be moist, but well drained.
