Painting a Pipe to Stop Rusting
- 1). Clean away all traces of rust from the pipe using a wire brush or medium sandpaper. Wipe the pipe with a dry rag to remove dust or moisture.
- 2). Apply a coat of rust primer to the pipe. Allow the primer to dry per the manufacturer's instructions.
- 3). Apply one or more coats of rust-prevention paint over the primed pipe. Allow the first coat to dry before adding a second.
