How to Create Flyers and Templates in Freeware
- 1). Sketch out you ideas for your flyer on paper before you start working in GIMP. List all the items you want to flyer to always have even when you change other elements, such as the logo for your business, your location, your phone number and hours of operation.
- 2). Download and install GIMP to your computer. Then start the program. Select "File" and click "New." For the new document, make the width and height whatever you need for your flyer, though most flyers are usually standard page size. In order to insure quality printing, make the resolution 300. Name the file and click "OK."
- 3). Now create the background for your flyer using the various tools in GIMP. You might want to apply the background color by using the "Paint Bucket" tool to fill the canvas with a particular color. Or you can use the "Rectangular" tool set to create a colored section on the flyer. Try to use only a few colors, as this is visually more appealing.
- 4). Add the information from your list on separate layers. The font size used should match the items. For instance, the header text should be large and at the top of the page, while the contact information should be smaller and at the bottom of the page. Leave plenty of room in your template for the text and images you will need to add later. Save your work.
- 5). Save this file again, but using a different name. Now add the images and text that change with each version of your flyer, such as image of products, prices and so on. When you are done save the file again as a high resolution JPEG or PNG. It is now ready for printing.
