How to Remove a Rear Axle Shaft
- 1). Place wheel blocks in front of the front wheels and engage the parking brake.
- 2). Jack up on the rear jack point located behind the trunk.
- 3). Place jack stands under the rear pinch welds of the vehicle and lower the vehicle onto the stands.
- 4). Remove the rear wheel lug nuts with an impact wrench and pull the wheels off the rear hub assembly.
- 5). Remove the center hub nut on the wheel hub with an impact wrench.
- 6). Support the lower control arm with a floor jack while you remove the wheel hub to lower the control arm bolts with an impact wrench.
- 7). Pull the hub assembly up and pull the axle shaft out of the hub assembly.
- 8). Pry the other end of the axle shaft out of the rear differential using a flat-tip screwdriver.
