Ovarian Cysts: Know the Truth
There are several different types of ovarian cysts: Graafian Follicle cyst, Corpus Iuteum Cyst,Hemorrhagic cyst,Dermoid cysts and Endometrioid cysts. Functional cysts which is called a simple cyst, they are the normal course of menstruation. They have nothing to do with diseases and can be treated. These types of ovarian cysts generally go away over a course of a few periods.
These cysts can grow in females at any phase of life, from the new period to post menopause. Most ovarian cysts, though, occur during infancy and adolescence, which are hormonally active periods of growth. Most are manageable in nature and resolve with minimal treatment.
However, ovarian cysts can messenger an underlying malignant progression or, possibly, distract the clinician from a more dangerous condition, such as ectopic pregnancy, ovarian torsion, or appendicitis. There is some belief; there may be a reverse relationship between ovarian cysts and breast cancer.
When ovarian cysts are big, untiring, or hurting, surgery may have to done, sometimes causing the removal of the ovary. A large ovarian cyst is shown in the images below
Abdominal pain in the female can be very difficult cases to diagnose properly in the emergency room. The field of gynecologic disease is wide, covering all age varieties and signifying various degrees of pain, from benign cysts that in time become ruptured ectopic pregnancy that causes life-threatening bleeding.
When presented with this situation, the goal of the emergency physician is to rule out acute causes of abdominal pain associated with high sickness and impermanence, such as appendicitis or ectopic pregnancy, to evaluate for the possibility of neoplasm or malignancy, and either to refer the patient to the appropriate consultant or to discharge them with a clear plan for follow-up with an obstetrician/gynecologist.
